Description

Western Pacific Railroad.  Steam locomotive builders plate.  American Locomotive Works Brooks Works, construction number 57445, built May 1917, class 2-6-6-2, engine number 202.  Brass construction.  Measures 13-3/8" by 7-1/4".  Excellent condition. Alco 57445 (1917): WP 2-6-6-2 #202

A very special plate from one of Western Pacific's "Mallet Moguls".  One of only ten units built for the Western Pacific.  Five of the units were built by Brooks and the other five were built by Richmond Works.  A true western rarity.  Built to haul heavy freight through the Feather River Canyon between  Oroville and Portola, California.  They were later assigned to freight service between Keddie and Bieber, California.  Iconic Western Pacific locations!
